College of Education, University of Al-Mustansiriyah organized a symposium on earthquakes in Iraq and negative effects.
The symposium, in which a number of faculty members, specialists and students participated, reviewed main reasons behind earthquakes as a result of tectonic or linear movements of the earth or as a result of static earth movements.
The symposium recommended establishing a seismic monitoring center in the areas prone to such accidents and strengthening of the existing urban buildings as well as increasing awareness campaign via media.
