College of Education, University of Mustansiriyah discussed
a master dissertation on using of prepared
Nano-Oxides using the rapid breakdown anodization technique to make shields
against Gamma rays by the postgraduate student, Mr. Hussein Hakim Raheef.
The dissertation aimed at using the rapid breakdown
anodization (RBA) technique in producing Nano-particles for (Bi, Bi2O3), (Pb,
PbO2) and (WO3) and employing this method and benefiting from the particles to
make shields against Gamma rays, as well as evaluating the efficiency of prepared
Nano-Oxides according to this technique as shields for Gamma rays.
The dissertation demonstrated that the sodium iodide (Tl)NaI
detector system to study the attenuation characteristics of samples for Gamma
rays for the energies emitted by radioactive sources (Am-241, 59.54 keV),
(Cs-137, 661.6 keV), and (Co-60, 1173 keV, 1332). keV), as well as conducting a
number of tests via using scanning electron microscope (SEM) images, which reviewed
the formation of Nanosheets of (Bi, Bi2O3) and (Pb, PbO2) particles, besides
semi-spherical particles of (WO3).
The dissertation concluded that armor manufactured via using
rapid anodization technology is highly efficient in attenuating Gamma rays.
