The College of Applied Sciences, Samarra University discussed a master's thesis on the study of some virulence factors and secretory protease of fungi isolated from patients with urinary tract infections and their effect on certain immunological indicators and gene expression by the postgraduate student, Ms. Batoul Samer Mahmoud.
The thesis aimed at isolating and identifying fungus from urine samples of patients with urinary tract infections and some virulence factors associated with the fungus, extract and purify the secretory protease enzyme from the isolates and evaluate the effect of the purified enzyme on human lymphocytes using a specific assay.
The study reviewed that the percentage of Candida-positive isolates was approximately 15.1%, significant changes were also observed in some immunological indicators, with elevated levels of IL-10 and TNF-α in patients compared to the healthy control group (P < 0.001). Furthermore, RT-qPCR results demonstrated that SAP caused concentration-dependent inhibition of IL-10 gene expression.
