During a joint online meeting with the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut and representatives of the international organization in the region Arabic and Baghdad on choosing the University of Communication and Information Technology in light of the approval of the Advisory Board of the Ministry to incubate the National Center for Smart E-Learning. The online meeting highlighted that the UNESCO representatives emphasized that the National Center for Smart Education in Iraq will provide an appropriate and positive environment to support, build capacities for digital transformations in higher education in Iraq and ensure the quality of virtual education. The online meeting reviewed that the two sides agreed choosing the UCIT, which was proposed by the His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abid Al-Sahib according to the specialization and it was presented on the 18th of February before the Opinion Committee and the project was approved unanimously. For it side, the UNESCO called on the 11th of February for a partnership with the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to establish a national center for smart e-learning in light of the message of His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abid Al-Sahib to the UNESCO –Iraq that the UNESCO International Institute for E-learning submitted a proposal to the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut to establish a National Center for Smart E-Learning in an Iraqi university. The UNESCO said that” the initiation of this partnership will be through the signing of a road map among the Iraqi Ministry of Higher, the UNESCO Office for Iraq, the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut and the International Institute for Higher Education and Innovation in China, noting that the partner Iraqi University will benefit from research cooperation, exchange of scholars, and a scholarship program with The UNESCO ICHEI network, which includes fifteen of the best universities in Africa and Asia, international high-tech institutions, international organizations and a global knowledge platform”. It is worth mention that the online meeting was in the presence of the Director General of Research and Development, Dr. Ghassan Hamid Abdel-Majeed, and President of Communication and Information Technology University, Dr. Abbas Al-Bakri, and a number of representatives of the Ministry's departments.
