Faculty members in the Universities of Diyala and Babylon obtained a patent on using natural gas in preparing carbon nanotubes.
The patent, in which granted by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control Unit of the Ministry of Planning, included preparing carbon nanotubes via using oxygen and nitrogen gases at 180 ° C.
The patent reviewed that nanotubes were with few walls with 66% of purity, external diameter by 6.89 - 9.8 nm, internal diameter by 2.75 - 3.92 nm, tubular carbon wall thickness was between 4.14 - 5.88 nm, the walls with 5 - 3 layers and the length of carbon tubes are 1 -2 micrometer.
