College of Agriculture, University of Diyala organized an online course on the remote sensing technology to manage forest fires, the Faculty Member in the College, Dr. Ahmed Bahgat Khalaf said. Dr. Khalaf added that the online course reviewed the types of forest fires that are considered a chemical reaction that needs three important elements, which are combustible materials (fuel), oxygen (air) and high temperature. Dr. Khalaf continued by saying that the online course highlighted that the use of ground surveys is costly and requires great time and efforts, therefore, the use of remote sensing technologies and information help a lot in the spatial and temporal assessment of the distribution of forest fires and the emissions of these fires. Dr. Khalaf demonstrated that the online course also reviewed the possibility of using remote sensing before the occurrence of fire via predicting the occurrence of fire by making vegetation maps.
