Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced on that the Scimago Institutions Rankings reviewed the progress of Iraqi public and private universities by twenty-two universities and colleges for 2021. Higher Education reviewed that the Scimago Institutions Rankings officially announced results that twenty-two Iraqi universities and colleges obtain top scores in the ranking which reviewed an increase of four 4 universities compared to the results of 2020. Higher Education added that the University of Baghdad obtained the first score locally and the (755) internationally, Al-Mustaqbal University College obtained the second score locally and the (757) internationally and it is the first private college to appear in the ranking and the University of Mosul obtained the third score locally and the (770) internationally. Higher Education indicated that a number of public universities were ranked for the first time in Scimago Institutions Rankings, such as Northern Technical University, University of Kirkuk and University of Al-Muthanna. It is worth mentioning that the Scimago Institutions Ranking is based on three main criteria, such as scientific research (50%), innovations (30%) and societal impact (20%).
