College of Engineering, University of Misan organized a symposium on collecting, processing and interpreting three-dimensional seismic data, the faculty member, Dr. Haider Hassan Faraj. The symposium reviewed the importance and applications of three-dimensional seismic surveys in the fields of exploration and development of oil fields in the field of petroleum exploration, collecting two- and three-dimensional seismic data, designing surveys and designing determinants, challenges and modern technologies used in this economic field. The symposium highlighted the stages of data processing after its collection, the processing mechanism, its steps and the most important factors affecting the production of high-resolution seismic sections, as well as the steps for interpreting data via using the (IHS-Kingdom) program. The symposium recommended the importance of three-dimensional seismic surveys in the field of oil and extractive explorations only and the necessity of reprocessing two-dimensional data due to the development of modern digital processing programs and technologies that can make those old data of very high value.
